The news

Prague has started building a tram line from Malovanka to Strahov, one of the city's largest student housing areas. The route runs about 1.3 kilometres from Bělohorská Street along Vaníčkova Street to the current bus terminus near Strahov Stadium.1

The Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) expects trial operation with passengers to begin in mid-2028. Three new pairs of stops are planned: Malovanka, Koleje Strahov and Strahov.1

The details

Fewer buses to Dejvická

Once the line opens, trams should replace some of the buses that now run between Strahov and Dejvická and ease congestion around Vítězné náměstí.1

Construction will take roughly one and a half building seasons. Trams towards Bílá Hora will have to stop running for a time when the new track is connected at Malovanka, and parts of Vaníčkova Street will close. DPP has not yet published an exact schedule for the closures.1
